Buyer Questions
CNC Machining Frequently Asked Questions
Use this CNC machining FAQ to decide what files to send, how process selection works, which tolerances and inspection documents need project review, and what changes price or lead time. For a usable quotation, provide the controlled drawing and model, exact material, quantity, functional requirements and delivery target; the approved quotation and purchase order override this general guidance.

Quotation and Files
What information is required for a CNC quote?
Send 3D CAD, a controlled 2D drawing, material, quantity, finish, critical tolerances, inspection documents, destination and required date.
Which CAD format is preferred?
STEP/STP plus a PDF drawing is preferred. Native and other neutral formats may be supported after compatibility review.
How quickly will I receive a quote?
The current target is within 24 hours for standard RFQs and 1–3 working days for complex projects, subject to complete files and engineering review.
Can you sign an NDA before I send files?
Yes, Formexi can review a mutual or customer NDA. The verified legal operating entity must be confirmed for execution.

Manufacturing
What quantities do you support?
One-off prototypes, low-volume and reviewed repeat production are supported. Quantity and capacity are confirmed per geometry, process and schedule.
Can every part be delivered in one day?
No. A simple prototype using available stock and as-machined finish may sometimes be completed quickly, but one-day delivery is not a universal promise.
Do you provide 5-axis machining?
Multi-axis projects are evaluated, but machine model, work envelope and in-house/network source must be confirmed for each quotation.
Can you recommend material or reduce cost?
Basic DFM may propose material, tolerance, radius, setup or finish alternatives. No design change is used without written approval.
Quality and Delivery
What tolerance can you hold?
General metal dimensions may be around ±0.10 mm, suitable precision features around ±0.05 mm, and selected dimensions down to approximately ±0.01 mm after review. These are provisional screening values.
Are all parts CMM inspected?
No. Inspection method follows feature and risk. CMM is used when suitable and agreed.
Can you provide material and inspection reports?
Yes when requested and confirmed before production. Available documents depend on material, supplier and project scope.
How are quality problems handled?
Formexi reviews the order, revision, evidence, affected quantity and measurement method, then agrees containment and disposition.
Which shipping methods are available?
DHL, FedEx, UPS, air and sea routes may be arranged after Incoterm, destination, customs and actual account capability are confirmed.

Confirm the Process for CNC Machining Frequently Asked Questions
For CNC Machining Frequently Asked Questions, submit the 2D drawing and 3D model with matching revision, exact material and condition, quantity and repeat demand. Identify relevant datums, critical tolerances, GD&T, threads, difficult-access geometry, thin walls, roughness, heat treatment and finish requirements.
The route for CNC Machining Frequently Asked Questions may require multiple setups, dedicated workholding, intermediate inspection or a justified secondary process. Select grinding, EDM, stress relief or post-finish verification only when the geometry and function require it; machine axis count alone does not establish final capability.
Have a Question About an Actual Part?
Upload the drawing for an answer based on geometry and requirements rather than a general FAQ.
