CNC Machining for Custom Gears and Splined Components
Formexi evaluates gear blanks, simple gear features and splined components through verified machining and manufacturing-network processes. Tooth geometry, quality grade, heat treatment, grinding, inspection and load requirements must be defined; standard CNC milling alone does not qualify every gear.

Information Required Before Quotation
- Gear or spline type and governing standard
- Module/DP, pressure angle, tooth count and helix data
- Quality grade and measurement standard
- Material, heat treatment, hardness and case depth
- Bore, keyway, datum, runout and mounting interface
- Noise, backlash, torque, life and inspection requirements

Possible Manufacturing Routes
| Route | Potential use | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| CNC milling | Prototypes, large/simple or special profiles | Productivity and quality grade may be limited |
| Hobbing/shaping | Repeat external/internal gear production | Requires verified partner equipment and tooling |
| Broaching or spline process | Internal splines and repeat geometry | Tooling cost and quantity matter |
| Grinding | Hardened precision tooth surfaces | Specialized machine and inspection required |
| Wire EDM | Selected profiles and hard materials | Conductive material and productivity limits |
Heat Treatment and Distortion
Carburizing, nitriding, induction hardening or through hardening can change tooth and bore geometry. Process allowance, sequence and post-treatment inspection must be planned from the specified quality grade.
Inspection Boundary
General dimensional inspection is not equivalent to certified gear measurement. Profile, lead, pitch, runout and composite testing require specialized equipment and standards. Formexi must confirm the actual inspection source before accepting a controlled gear grade.
Capability Status
Gear cutting, grinding and metrology are conditional capabilities until supplier equipment, quality-system evidence and representative parts are verified. The website does not claim an in-house gear production line without that evidence.

Confirm the Process for CNC Machining for Custom Gears and Splined Components
For CNC Machining for Custom Gears and Splined Components, submit the 2D drawing and 3D model with matching revision, exact material and condition, quantity and repeat demand. Identify relevant datums, critical tolerances, GD&T, threads, difficult-access geometry, thin walls, roughness, heat treatment and finish requirements.
The route for CNC Machining for Custom Gears and Splined Components may require multiple setups, dedicated workholding, intermediate inspection or a justified secondary process. Select grinding, EDM, stress relief or post-finish verification only when the geometry and function require it; machine axis count alone does not establish final capability.
