Post-Machining Processes
Secondary Operations for CNC Machined Parts
Formexi coordinates deburring, drilling, tapping, reaming, EDM, grinding, finishing, marking and selected assembly when the approved part requires more than primary CNC machining. Each operation is identified as in-house or partner-supported during quotation.

Available Operation Categories
Feature Completion
Drilling, tapping, reaming, special threads and controlled deburring.
EDM and Grinding
Wire/sinker EDM and surface, cylindrical or internal grinding subject to verified capacity.
Surface Finishing
Anodizing, passivation, plating, coating, polishing, marking and heat treatment through selected routes.
Assembly and Packaging
Project-dependent mechanical assembly, labeling and protective packaging.

Why Secondary Operations Must Be Planned Early
Heat treatment can move dimensions, coating adds thickness, grinding requires stock allowance, anodizing changes holes and threads, and cosmetic finishing changes handling requirements. Adding a process after machining may make the original dimensions or quotation invalid.
Partner Process Control
- Confirm specification, supplier capability and required certificate.
- Identify critical dimensions, threads, masking and appearance zones.
- Send only the information required for the assigned process.
- Maintain batch and order identification.
- Reinspect returned parts before final release.
Buyer Specifications Needed
| Process | Important information |
|---|---|
| Anodizing/plating/coating | Type, color, thickness, mask and appearance standard |
| Heat treatment | Material, hardness, case depth, straightness and certificate |
| Grinding | Stock allowance, final size, roughness and datum |
| Laser marking | Artwork, content, position, size and contrast |
| Deburring | Allowed edge break and edges that must remain sharp |
Capability Boundary
The broad process directory is a sourcing and project-management range, not proof that every process is owned by Formexi. Final supplier, standard, capacity and documentation are confirmed in the quotation.

Confirm the Process for Secondary Operations for CNC Machined Parts
For Secondary Operations for CNC Machined Parts, submit the 2D drawing and 3D model with matching revision, exact material and condition, quantity and repeat demand. Identify relevant datums, critical tolerances, GD&T, threads, difficult-access geometry, thin walls, roughness, heat treatment and finish requirements.
The route for Secondary Operations for CNC Machined Parts may require multiple setups, dedicated workholding, intermediate inspection or a justified secondary process. Select grinding, EDM, stress relief or post-finish verification only when the geometry and function require it; machine axis count alone does not establish final capability.
Quote Machining and Finishing Together
Submit the finished-part drawing so stock allowance, masks and post-process inspection can be planned before machining.
